SEO bait

While searching for comparisons of prices of SSL certificates, the query “ssl certificate price compare” yielded me the following results:

Here are the top 3 sites listed:

  1. www.whichssl.com
  2. www.instantssl.com
  3. www.positivessl.com

All 3 sites are trying to game search results on ssl price comparison searches and actually belong to one entity: Comodo. And guess what, they sell certificates. They make it even more obvious by displaying a floating ad on all 3 listed sites (but only if you came from Google):

Google is known to do incremental improvements on its searches against such spam, but somehow the block link still doesn’t show up for Canada so that I can get rid of such junk. I manually have to go to the “Manage Blocked Sites” page to remove each site, link by link or get some browser add-ons. Google needs to roll it out worldwide, and soon.

Update: Clicking on Go to Google.com link below the search box is one way of getting the block link. But that has to be done everytime as going to Google.com always redirects to your local version, so it’s not ideal.
